Meet The Rochesteriat

Editor’s Note: We’re pleased to continue our #ROCstar blog series this week with two very special Rochesterians behind The Rochesteriat, a guide for all things Rochester.

Jason and Stefanie Schwingle

Well, really, meet the Schwingles. The warm, city-dwelling, optimistic couple you always hope to find next door, or as your upstairs neighbor.

“We’re really trying to change the perspective of what it means to live and play in the city,” Jason Schwingle tells us with a contagious enthusiasm on a rainy April morning at Java’s in the East End.

“You can’t get any more involved than involving your time, energy, and resources into a city. Here at the Rochesteriat everything we do, we do because we believe in our city.”

The Rochesteriat has been a dream for Jason Schwingle for quite a long time. “Rochester itself has done so much good for me that I’ve always wanted to give back in the same way.”

Last Fall, he and his wife Stefanie made this dream a reality and we have been avid followers ever since.

The Rochesteriat covers anything and everything about Rochester, from high profile projects like the Button Lofts to lesser known treasures like the Wintergarden in the Bausch & Lomb building.

“We’re really trying to change the perspective of what it means to live and play in the city,” Jason tells us. “We like to encourage people to learn about stuff they might not know.”

“Our city guide basically just shows what’s available. It’s tackling the whole idea of ‘there’s nothing to do in Rochester’ ”

Popular shopping destinations like Peppermint and Abode Rochester have been featured, as have many of the city’s watering holes, coffee shops, and destinations. We cannot wait to give them a tour of Hart’s once it opens.

Of course, our missions line up so well that we find ourselves grinning over our coffees wanting to ask more questions. Meeting the Schwingles, you get a sense that a wonderful discovery in the city is just around the corner.

“We love Rochester. We live it, breathe it, eat it, everything…”
